Prepping Your Galaxy Cooler For Maximum Performance
Because Galaxy Cooler uses such well-designed insulation in this product it will retain cold and heat.
When prepping the cooler for optimal performance make sure the cooler is not hot. If you load the cooler after it has been stored in a warm environment and is not cooled before use, you will not realize the coolers full potential. Try to begin with, and keep, the cooler out of direct sun.
Next lower the inside temperature of the cooler by adding a sacrificial bag of ice several hours before actually packing the cooler for use, if possible put it in a chest or walk-in freezer for the same amount of time. This will create a refrigerated mass inside the cooler. By pre-cooling you will eliminate the heat stored inside the walls and lid of the cooler enabling the cooler to begin at the same temperature as the ice you are about to add and allowing the Galaxy Cooler to perform and insulate the way it was intended.
Now empty the water and add block ice to the entire bottom area of the cooler. Use as much block ice as possible because it has less surface area of which to melt. Food, drink and other goods can now be put into the cooler. It is best to refrigerate or freeze the items before adding them to the cooler. Leave enough space around the edge and top to add a substantial amount of cube ice and fill all remaining air pockets. Air pockets speed up the melting of the ice. Once full and allowing room to close the lid, do so promptly. During use only open the lid for short periods of time and as little as possible. This will greatly increase the life of the ice, in turn maintaining the quality and safety of foods and drinks as long as you can.
Depending on the size of the cooler and the steps that are followed to obtain maximum ice retention, results will vary. In most cases the Galaxy Cooler will have 5% of ice remaining after nine days in temperatures of 90 degrees. Some customers have reported that their coolers have maintained ice in excess of 20 days. Please feel free to contact us and ask about these results.
125 cube, 128 long, 165 long supreme, 210 long, and up: 15+ days
*Note: If using your Galaxy Cooler to transport or store hot food, follow the above prep procedures but instead of a bag of ice, add boiling water for a while to increase the temperature of the cooler walls and lid (DO NOT put it in an oven). Then remove the water, add your food or beverage and keep it closed until needed.
These preparation instructions are for the Heavy Duty Lunch Boxes, Long Boxes, Cube Style and Supreme coolers only. Our Lunch boxes will insulate and seal in cold better then any other cooler or lunchbox of this size available with normal prep and use.
Always be sure to pay special attention to the temperature of your food to ensure quality. We are not responsible for the quality of your food.
Cleaning and Maintenance
If you take care of this cooler it can last your lifetime.
Before using your Galaxy Cooler clean the interior with any standard dish washing detergent and rinse.
For tough odors, wash with a 1-part bleach and 50-parts water mixture. Clean the neoprene seal regularly to maintain a good tight seal. The exterior of the box has been manufactured with a smooth finish to allow ease of cleaning and can usually be cleaned by rinsing and wiping down with a non-abrasive cloth. If tough dirt remains use a mild dish detergent. Residue left from oils can be removed easily by using lanolin-based hand cleaner or baby oil. Do not use alcohol-based cleaners that dry before removing the stain.
